Crochet a wall hanging!

Do you really like the wall-hanging trend, but don’t have a good grasp on weaving? You can also opt to crochet a wall tapestry. French blogger Jessica from Zess.fr created this lovely design especially for us.

SUPPLIES
* Yarn (thickness of 4.5-5): 1 white ball and 1 blue ball
* crochet hook: no. 5 • 1 darning needle
* 1 wooden dowel or stick

STITCHES USED
Double crochet: Insert the crochet hook into a st, yarn over the crochet hook, and bring it through the st. Yarn over the crochet hook and bring it through the two loops.
Slip stitch: Insert the crochet hook into a st, yarn over the crochet hook, and bring it through the st and the loose loop on your crochet hook.

Treble crochet: Yarn over the crochet hook, and insert the crochet hook into a st, yarn over the crochet hook, and bring it through the st. Yarn over the crochet hook and bring it through the first two loops. Yarn over the crochet hook again and bring it through the remaining two loops.

Half treble crochet: Yarn over the crochet hook, and insert the crochet hook into a st, yarn over the crochet hook, and bring it through the st. There are now three loops on your crochet hook. Yarn over the crochet hook again and bring it through the three loops on the crochet hook.

Quadruple treble crochet: Yarn over the crochet hook four times, and insert the crochet hook into a st, yarn over the crochet hook, and bring it through the st. Yarn over the crochet hook and bring it through the first two loops. Repeat this step five times.

Double decrease with double crochet: Insert the crochet hook into a st, yarn over the crochet hook and bring it through the st, insert the crochet hook in the third st (so skip the second st), yarn over the crochet hook and bring it through the st. Yarn over the crochet hook and bring it through the three loops. Double decrease with half treble crochet: Yarn over the crochet hook, insert the crochet hook into a st, yarn over the crochet hook and bring it through the st, yarn over the crochet hook and insert it into the third st (so skip the second st), yarn over the crochet hook and bring it through the st. Yarn over the crochet hook and bring it through the five loops.

Double decrease with treble crochet: Yarn over the crochet hook, insert the crochet hook into a st, yarn over the crochet hook and bring it through the st, yarn over the crochet hook and bring it through the first two loops, yarn over the crochet hook and insert it into the third st (so skip the second st), yarn over the crochet hook and bring it through the st, yarn over the crochet hook and bring it through the first two loops. Yarn over the crochet hook and bring it through the three remaining loops.

CROCHETING INSTRUCTIONS
The wall hanging is crocheted from top to bottom.

Cast on: Cast on 34 chains in the white yarn. Leave a long piece of yarn hanging loose here at the start of the cast-on to be able to secure your creation to the wooden dowel or branch after you’re done crocheting.

Row 1: Crochet the first treble crochet in the fifth loop from the crochet hook. Treble crochet another 30 (a total of 31 treble crochet).

Row 2: Chain 3 (= first treble crochet) and turn the chain. Treble crochet 30 (a total of 31 treble crochet).

Row 3: Chain 5 (= first quadruple treble crochet), chain 1, *quadruple treble crochet in the second st (skip a st), chain 1*. Repeat the instructions between the asterisks until the end of the row. End with a quadruple treble crochet.

Row 4: Chain 3 (= first treble crochet), treble crochet 30 by alternating between a treble crochet in a quadruple treble crochet and a treble crochet in a chain.

Row 5: Repeat row 2.

Row 6: Chain 3 (= first treble crochet), *treble crochet 1, half treble crochet 2, double crochet 1, slip stitch 1, half treble crochet 2*. Repeat the instructions between the asterisks until the end of the row.

Row 7 (in blue): Chain 1, double crochet 2 in the same st, *double crochet 3, crochet a double decrease with double crochet, double crochet 3 in the same st.*. Repeat the instructions between the asterisks twice, double crochet 3, crochet a double decrease with double crochet, double crochet 3, double crochet 2 in the same st.

Row 8 (in white): Chain 3 (= first treble crochet), treble crochet 1 in the same st, *treble crochet 3, crochet a double decrease with treble crochet, treble crochet 3, treble crochet 3 in the same st*. Repeat the instructions between the asterisks twice, treble crochet 3, crochet a double decrease with treble crochet, treble crochet 3, treble crochet 2 in the same st.

Row 9 (in blue): Chain 2 (= first half treble crochet), half treble crochet 1 in the same st, *half treble crochet 3, crochet a double decrease with half treble crochet, half treble crochet 3, half treble crochet 3 in the same st*. Repeat the instructions between the asterisks twice, half treble crochet 3, crochet a double decrease with half treble crochet, half treble crochet 3, half treble crochet 2 in the same st.

Row 10 through 17: Repeat row 8 each time, alternating between white and blue. Crochet rows 12 through 15 all in white.
Chain 1 and cut the yarn.

Slide the long yarn from the beginning onto a darning needle. Slide this into each stitch and then wrap around the dowel/branch to secure it to the tapestry. Knot it at the end. Tuck in all loose yarns.

And you’re finished!
